Summerwood Community Garden, Clifton, Nottingham
Summerwood Community Garden was set up in 2007 by local community groups and volunteers. Following a successful lottery bid from the Local Food Grant it has officially become Clifton’s first Community Garden.
The garden provides a relaxing environment for local residents and community groups to grow fruit and vegetables in a fun and sociable way.
It runs a variety of workshops in organic fruit and vegetable growing, wildlife gardening and arts and crafts and also holds regular events to encourage people to get together and have fun.
Many of the open days include apple pressing, plant and seed swaps and healthy cooking days.
It also offers a wide range of volunteering opportunities from basic horticulture to wildlife gardening and conservation.
The garden works with a number of local schools, day care centres, play and children centres, youth groups, older peoples groups and local residents.
It 's main ethos is that everyone has the opportunity to get involved which is why Summerwood Community Garden is accessible to the whole community.
